General Dental Practitioners require a DBS check when they apply to be on a health board’s ‘Performers List’. They do not require another check unless they move to a different health board (and therefore to a different performers list).

Private Dental Practices

During 2017-18, dental practices that provide private dental services are required to register with us under the new Private Dentistry (Wales) Regulations 2017

Regulations 9(3)(c), 9(4), 11(3) and 18(3) refer to Schedule 3 which states that any persons seeking to carry on or manage a Private Dental Practice must have an enhanced DBS check, which, at the point of registration, has been issued in the last 3 years. For persons who work at a Private Dental Practice an enhanced certificate is required for those who have contact with vulnerable adults and/or children and a standard check is sufficient for those that do not.

We will process the checks for those who carry on or manage a Private Dental Practice but practices will need to put their own arrangements in place for undertaking checks for those who work at the practice.
