Dr Kate Chamberlain has been Chief Executive of Healthcare Inspectorate Wales since 2013. Kate is responsible for the overall management, staffing and organisation of the Inspectorate and also works closely with other inspection, audit and regulation bodies in Wales.
Prior to joining HIW, Kate was the Welsh Government's Chief Statistician, ensuring that official statistics were produced independently and to robust professional standards.
Kate was responsible for setting up the Local Government Data Unit and was its first Director between 2001 and 2003. Between 1990 and 2001, she worked for the Audit Commission/District Audit Wales, conducting value-for-money reviews of local government and health services.
Kate came to Wales in 1981 to study statistics at Cardiff University where she also studied for a PhD in mathematical statistics.
