The Local Supervising Authority for Midwives (LSA) was responsible for the supervision of all midwives practising in Wales.
The purpose of the LSA was to:
- Ensure that health boards who provide NHS maternity services comply with the standards set by the Nursing Midwifery Council.
- Support midwives in their practice through a model of statutory supervision that has clear standards and processes to enhance public protection but which also proactively supports midwives to provide with confidence, a high standard of midwifery care with choice for women.
