Routine onsite assurance work to resume

Healthcare Inspectorate Wales to increase routine onsite assurance work from 26th April.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic the majority of our assurance work has been undertaken offsite in the form of Quality Checks. We have continued to undertake onsite site activity where there has been a clear, high level of risk to patient safety which we could not explore remotely.

With a range of indicators showing positive signs with regard to COVID-19-induced pressures, we will introduce more onsite assurance activity to our work programme from 26th April. We intend to recover our full routine onsite inspection programme from 1st July 2021.

We are also fully evaluating our Quality Check approach, introduced during the pandemic, so that we can determine how this might be used longer term as part of our mix of assurance activity.
